PRIMARY CARE

Primary Care

Naturopathic physicians learn to treat all aspects of family health and wellness, from pediatrics to geriatrics. They tailor their therapies to meet the individual needs of each patient, factoring in physical, social, emotional and spiritual aspects before prescribing a course of treatment. Because they view natural remedies as complementary as well as primary, naturopathic physicians cooperate with other medical professionals, referring patients to allopathic medical doctors, surgeons and other specialists whenever appropriate.

Our Doctors of naturopathic medicine (NDs) are trained as primary care providers and, as such, their scope of practice include:

Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine

Acupuncture is a therapy that uses needles to manipulate the flow of Qi (pronounced: chee) within specific channels (meridians) along the body. Qi is a term used for a form of energy that is responsible for the proper functioning of cells and organs in the body. If a blockage occurs in the flow of Qi or it becomes depleted in some way, disease is formed. Acupuncture points are areas along body meridians that can affect the flow Qi. These points can also affect the flow of blood in a certain area, the chemicals involved in inflammation and pain, neurological impulses, and other mechanical functions in the body.

Clinical Nutrition

Naturopathic doctors are experts in nutrition. In fact, we always start with food and digestion for all our naturopathic patients.

Many of us find that figuring out what to eat is confusing. There are so many different diets out there: vegetarian, vegan, macrobiotic, raw food, Blood Type, Paleo, GAPS, etc. We will help you come up with a food plan that suits your beliefs without compromising nutrition. We believe that there is no single diet that suits everyone. Ultimately we promote:

  • whole, non-processed foods
  • colorful fruits & vegetables, preferably organic
  • low refined (and unrefined) sugars
  • sustainable seafood that is low in toxicity
  • pasture-raised, hormone- and antibiotic-free meat, if you eat meat
We help our patients navigate labels and figure out what they should and should not be eating according to each individual's situation.

Counseling

Coming in for counseling is a huge step on the road to health for many of our patients. Therapy can help with everything from trauma to changing emotional eating patterns. At Rain City Integrative Clinic we like to include counseling as part of the comprehensive wellness plans for our patients. Our providers are experienced working with adults from a variety of backgrounds; including those in LGBTQIA, Poly, Kink, and Body Positivity communities.

The providers at Rain City Integrative Clinic work with patients to really tailor the counseling experience. Most sessions utilize CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) as a base and other therapies are added as needed. The frequency and duration of therapy is decided between the provider and the patient.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a form of medicine that utilizes dilute, potentized remedies made from plant, animal and mineral substances. It is based on two fundamental principles:

1. The greater the dilution of a remedy the more powerful is its medicinal effects.

2. "Like cures like", which means a dilute, potentized substance will produce the same symptoms as the disease when given to a healthy person.

Homeopathy, taken from the Greek 'homoios', meaning similar, and “pathos”, meaning suffering, works on the body/mind system as a whole, aiming to promote physical and mental well-being. Looking beyond labels that are traditionally given to disorders, homeopathy seeks to strengthen the underlying imbalance or disorder that lies within the person.

Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is the use of water to illicit the natural healing ability of the body. It is the oldest form of treatment for the body. Developed in the 1800′s by Father Kneipp, a German priest and carried to America by Benedict Lust, water was used to treat many ailments. Water use was multi-faceted. Hot, cold, body temperature, with/without herbs, sprays or showers, compresses, baths, etc.; each had their own function to help the body repair and return it to the “normal state."

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is manual manipulation of soft body tissues (muscle, connective tissue, tendons and ligaments) to enhance a person’s health and well-being. There are dozens of types of massage therapy methods (also called modalities).

People seek massage therapy for a variety of reasons – to reduce stress and anxiety, relax muscles, rehabilitate injuries, reduce pain, and promote overall health and wellness.

Therapeutic Infrared Sauna

Therapeutic Infrared Sauna As one of the most advanced naturopathic techniques for detoxification, infrared sauna therapy consists of heaters producing radiant energy similar to the heat from the sun only without the harmful ultraviolet rays. The hot air created causes the body to heat up, eventually accelerating the body's natural sweat mechanism, as well as, stimulating circulation. Hence, health is promoted through detoxification. Research demonstrates improvement in chronic pain conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis; improvements in ventricular arrhythmias, chronic heart failure, and pulmonary hypertension. Infrared therapy is also the treatment of choice for multiple chemical sensitivity patients and patients with toxic environmental exposures.

Infrared saunas are best known for their ability to relieve the body from stress. The infrared heat is known to also help:

  • provide soothing relief from arthritis/rheumatism
  • clear up congestion
  • improve the circulatory system
  • lower the blood pressure
  • improve production of plasma and red blood cells
  • strengthen the immune system
  • increase the body’s endurance
  • promote a more healthy heart
  • create a rejuvenating effect on the skin
Infrared heat restores the strength of the body and at the same time promotes a more healthy appetite.

Vitamin & Mineral Therapy

The doctors at Rain City Integrative Clinic utilize supplements and intramuscular injections to administer nutrients to patients. They utilize many of the principles of orthomolecular medicine to help patients treat conditions and improve their health. With few exceptions, the doctors at RCIC treat supplements and injections as therapy with a specified duration. Our goal is to help restore balance to patients and teach them ways to maintain it through diet and lifestyle.
